You cannot expand GB-L "non-pro" with GB-L pro modules.
They are not compatible, GB-L pro uses different cell chemistry. Combining non-pro with pro is not allowed!
And if you want your BMS to work with GB-L pro modules you will have to update battery FW to 4004 version.
But that will not solve anything, if you want to combine "pro" and "non-pro" battery modules.
You can only build another tower with 3 new "pro" modules and run "non-pro" tower in parallel to "pro" tower. That should work.
Thanks for your answer.
I have had found before a DEYE-documentation, which describe the possibility to combine the older and newer cell blocks,
see version 1.1 of DEYE ESS Battery Extension Manual.
In the latest revision 1.3, which I found today, the describtion is a bit more detailed. See following text.
Therefore, I need a contact at DEYE to have my BMS updated. I'm missing the contact information to reach a customer service technician at Deye Energy Storage. Can anyone help with this? I've already joined Michael Weidner's group.
My older and newer batteries have been in production for six months, so reassembly should be possible.
Old version 1.1 you can find here.

The newer version 1.3, it´s not the best place to find, but at least some more information as in the first revision.

Hello Tribesman,
We are experiencing an issue where our BMU, running version 4003, does not appear to be compatible with the GB-L Pro modules. Unfortunately, DEYE support has not responded to our request to perform an update.
Could you please assist us? We have three GB-L Pro 4.1-2 modules. The battery pack was purchased together with the BMU as a set.
Thank you very much and best regards,
Dirk
Ask Deye support staff to upload 4004 firmware to your BMU.
That should fix the problem.
Hallo,
- 4× Deye GB-L 4.0 Batteriemodule (alte Generation)
- neue GB-L Pro Base
- neues GB-LBS-PRO BMS
Also konkret:
- alte GB-L 4.0 Module
- mit GB-L Pro Base
- und GB-LBS-PRO BMS
Falls ja:
- wurden alle Module korrekt erkannt?
- war ein Firmwareupdate notwendig?
- gab es Probleme bei Initialisierung oder SOC-Erkennung?
Vielen Dank
Yes you can use GB-L Pro BMS with "old" GB-L modules.
No problem with that, no firmware update needed, fully compatible out of the box.
